Who will win the battle between F-22 Raptor and Sukhoi SU-57
In today’s blog, we are going to compare the two most advanced fighter jets of 2021. The first one is Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and the second one is Sukhoi SU-57. It is still debatable for a long time who will win the battle between F-22 Raptor and Sukhoi SU-57.
F-22 Raptor is a single-seat twin-engine fifth-generation stealth fighter jet develops by Lockheed Martin while the Sukhoi SU-57 is a single-engine multi-role fifth-generation stealth fighter.
The unit cost of the F-22 Raptor is $150million which is why it is one of the world’s most expensive fighters ever developed while the cost of production of SU-57 is only $42million.
The F-22 Raptor is 19m in length while Su-57 is 20m
The wingspan of F-22 is 13.5m and Su-57 wingspan is 14m and as far as the height is concern the F-22 is 5m and Su-57 is 4.5m.
The F-22 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney F-119-PW-100 turbofans engines which allow the F-22 Raptor to fly at the maximum speed of 2414km/hr.
The SU-57 is powered by two Saturn A1-41F1 Turbofans with thrust vectoring which allows SU-57 to fly at the maximum speed of 2120km/hr
The capacity of Fuel
The Fuel capacity of Su-57 is 10300kg while F-22 can carry only 8200kg of fuel.
The SU-57 can travel more distance than Raptor. The Sukhoi SU-57 can travel 3500nm without refueling while the F-22 Raptor is behind which can travel only 2960nm.
The F-22 Raptor carries four weapons in the internal bay and the wings can carry up to eight in an external bay on side wings. The SU-57 on the other hand can carry six weapons internally while 6 on side wings.
Stealth is a key foundation of both these fighter jets.
The F-22 Raptor design maximized sensor evasion with diamond-shaped wings and sharp faceted surfaces. The speed brake, weapon bay doors, and engine exhausts are serrated to minimize the aircraft’s radar signature on large vertical canted tails reduce the fighter infrared signature from certain angles. The aircraft’s metallic surfaces are all is coated with radar absorbing material. The use of the supercomputer helped make the F-22 highly maneuverable especially at a high angle of attack. The key F-22 feature is the use of thrust vectoring in the pitch axis allowing the aircraft to combine engine power with maneuver with high angles of attack to gain an advantage in a dogfight.
The SU-57 emphasis on maneuverability and speed. the SU-57 is designed for low radar observability and greater maneuverability. It is said that SU-57 is much more maneuverable than any other fighter jet. The blended wings design increases internal volume for avionics fuel and weapons
F-22 Raptor radar P-77 is designed to engage multiple targets under any weather conditions. The P-77 changes frequencies with seconds which makes F-22 more secure from any enemy electronic attacks.
The P-77 radar estimated range of 240 km against an 11 sq ft (1 m2) target and 400 km or more in narrow beams
The SU-57 Elka squirrel radar and the L-402 electronic countermeasures suite will be the fighter’s primary means of detecting stealth aircraft while the 101 KS electro-optical suite including an infrared search and track system will help the pilot to track and engage targets with infrared-guided missiles.
It has the ability to track 60 targets and shoot 16 simultaneously, at the same time having the ability to engage 4 targets on land simultaneously altogether.
What happens if they come in aerial engagement?
Both of these fighter jets are fifth-generation stealth fighters and the design priorities of these aircraft give the two aircraft different advantages at different ranges. The SU-57 priorities and armaments lend themselves to detection and elimination of threats at the long-range key to this strategy the SU-57 radar must be able to detect stealth aircraft at longer ranges.
Once these two fighters come in visual range, the SU-57 combination of maneuverability and infrared search and track will make it a lethal opponent.
The F-22 Raptor however on the other hand emphasizes stealth and maneuverability. The F-22 can also detect stealth fighters at long ranges and evade enemy radar connect it to a set up an ambush before the enemy knows it is in the area.
Thus the F-22 has more likelihood of gaining the initiative early on and winning the battle before the two jets can come within visual range of one another key to the raptors strategy. the F-22 stealth must protect it from the prying eyes of Russian radars
In a dogfight, it is difficult to know who will prevail even we don’t know how maneuverable the SU-57 is but the Russian jet infrared search and track system is something the American stealth fighter doesn’t have will be a major bonus in combat.
However, the F-22 is the most iconic and world-beating fighter that is on the very top of the fighter jet list while the SU-57 is a challenger that can be proved as good in different ways and the most worthy opponent. If these two aircraft ever meet in combat it will be remembered for ages.
